International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem
by Nick Hammond on Jul 28, 2022
July 26th was International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem as adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 2015.
This day holds a special place in our hearts. Not only because it was instituted the very year that MANG was founded but because its dedication raises awareness of the importance of mangroves as a unique, special, and vulnerable ecosystem.
Key Aspect in Many Forms of Life
Mangroves exist at the intersection of land and sea in tropical regions and play a key aspect in many forms of life, including:
- Food security
- Protection of coastal communities
- Maintaining biodiversity
- Providing breeding habitats for aquatic species
- Natural defense against storm surges, tsunamis, sea level rise, and erosion
- Trap large amounts of carbon

Under Threat
Yet these ecosystems are constantly threatened by development, deforestation, and pollution.
We're on a mission to promote solutions for mangrove management, conservation, and sustainable uses. And through our Buy One, Plant One initiative you can help us to replant and restore coastal ecosystems here in Florida and across the globe.
